Tips on Towing a Vehicle Behind Your Motorhome

Towing a vehicle behind a motorhome has become more and more popular. And why not, it is much more convenient to drive around in a vehicle when you want to go somewhere rather than have to drive the big ‘ol coach.   If you are considering towing a vehicle behind your motorhome then we have a few tips for you!

First, you need to check to see if your motorhome can first handle towing a vehicle behind it in the first place. This includes the ability to have the power to climb hills and mountains as well as the braking power going down them.  You will need to find out the manufactures gross combine weight which means your motorhome plus the vehicle.

Next you’ll want to check the hitch on the motorhome and make sure it is secure and in proper working condition as well as check the hitch weight rating on it.  There are three options when towing your car, using a trailer, a car dolly or a tow bar. We prefer the latter.  Next you will want to check all of the connections, turn signal, brake and tail lights.

When you are towing a vehicle behind your motorhome, it is easy to forget that you have something back there because you any be able to see it. You will need to adjust your driving habits by taking more time, allowing more space and taking your time.  Also, your total combined length cannot exceed 65’.
